Not at all! The Milestones of Love Volunteer Program provides all the training and support you need. Our experienced coordinators will guide you throughout the journey. All we ask for is your commitment to building a compassionate and supportive relationship with your participant. No formal education or prior experience is required to get started!

We understand that life happens! If you need to take a break, it's not a problem. Typically, we’ll pair you with another volunteer who can step in during your absence. Just let your participant and your co-volunteer know ahead of time so they’re aware and don’t feel left out when you’re away. Communication is key to ensuring everyone feels supported!

Not at all! The Milestones of Love Volunteer Program is fully supported through fundraising, which helps cover all necessary activities. You won’t need to spend any of your own money. While we encourage spending time together with your participant through free or low-cost activities, like a walk or a visit to a park, you won't be expected to fund anything yourself.

While we ask that you live in or near Vancouver, the program is open to volunteers from surrounding areas as well. The key is that you’re able to attend community events and meet in person with your participant. If you live outside Vancouver, as long as you can make it to the necessary activities and meetings, you're welcome to join!

The process to become a volunteer is straightforward. Here are the steps:

• Step 1: Fill out the volunteer interest form.
• Step 2: Participate in a brief phone interview with one of our coordinators.
• Step 3: Attend a training session where you’ll get familiar with the program and have the chance to ask any questions.
• Step 4: Complete a criminal record check.
• Step 5: Meet with your participant mom and a program coordinator in an initial coffee meeting.
• Step 6: Begin to slowly build trust and rapport with your participant, with ongoing support from the Milestones of Love team.

Throughout your experience, you’ll never be alone! Our coordinators provide ongoing support to ensure you have the resources and guidance needed to create a successful and fulfilling relationship with your participant mom. Whether it's advice, emotional support, or just someone to talk to, we’ve got your back every step of the way.

The matching process can vary depending on availability and needs, but we aim to match you with a participant mom as quickly as possible after completing your volunteer application and training. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and connect before any formal commitments are made, ensuring both you and your participant mom feel comfortable moving forward.

We understand that everyone has busy schedules, and the time commitment is flexible. While we encourage volunteers to build a consistent relationship with their participant mom, the program is designed to work around your availability. Your involvement is based on mutual agreement, and we strive to ensure that both you and your participant mom can make the most of your time together in a meaningful way.
